A great hotel to stay in Malang. Well, actually in Batu area. The service was wonderful. Because the hotel is located on the mountainous region of Batu, it has the resort-like amenities. There are swimming pools and tennis courts, as well as spa & sauna facilities. There are 24-hour coffee shops where you can order sandwiches, Indonesian or chinese food, or just a cup of coffee. The hotel has restaurants where you can dine indoor or outdoor with live music. When I stayed there I just loved spending the evening just hanging out on my hotel room porch that overlooked the mountain regions, sipping a nice hot cup of tea ☺. Siapa yang tidak pernah ke Jalan Soekarno-Hatta (Soehat)? Jalan protokol yang membentang mulai kawasan Blimbing hingga Betek ini adalah salah satu pusat kuliner yang ada di Kota Malang. Puluhan tempat makan berjejer, entah itu warung kaki lima ataupun resto berkelas.
Menariknya, jika malam tiba, suasana Jalan Soehat semakin berwarna. Banyak bermunculan tempat ngopi dan nongkrong. Salah satu tempat ngopi yang sudah memiliki ‘nama besar’ di kawasan Soehat adalah Kopi Jalanan. Lokasi Kopi Jalanan terletak di sebelah selatan bangunan Vihara. Sebelum berdiri di lokasi ini, Kopi Jalanan awalnya berdiri di kawasan yang sama, tetapi letaknya di sebelah gedung Polinema. Dengan lokasi yang sekarang hanya berjarak sekitar 50 meter.
Di lokasi yang baru ini, Kopi Jalanan memanfaatkan bangunan setengah jadi yang cukup besar. Memanfaatkan bangunan setengah jadi memang tidak ada indah-indahnya untuk sebuah tempat nongkrong. Tetapi saat Malang Post menginjakkan kaki di tempat ini, justru dengan model bangunan setengah jadi membuat suasana semakin asyik.
Di bagian depan, adalah bagian outdoor. Di sini terdapat beberapa meja dan lesehan. Banyak pengunjung yang menyukai area ini karena sembari ngopi dan nongkrong bisa melihat lalu lalang kendaraan yang melewati Jalan Soehat. Apalagi posisi bangunan juga sedikit di atas median jalan, sehingga meski berada di luar tidak akan terganggu dengan asap mobil atau motor.
Masuk ke bagian tengah, pengunjung akan menemui sebuah panggung mini dengan backdrop bertuliskan Kopi Jalanan. Di sini adalah tempat live music. Ada beberapa meja yang ditata mengitari panggung mini untuk pengunjung yang ingin menikmati sajian musik. Sedangkan di bagian dalam adalah tempat yang lebih privasi.
“Menggunakan bangunan setengah jadi justru membuat suasana Kopi Jalanan semakin asyik. Terbukti para pengunjung betah ngopi dan nongkrong berlama-lama di sini bersama kawan-kawannya. Apalagi sesekali ada live music yang menghibur mereka,” ujar pemilik Kopi Jalanan, Dhara Mustika yang ditemani sang suami, Reynold Singgih.
Meski namanya Kopi Jalanan, bukan berarti yang mampir ke tempat ngopi ini adalah orang-orang jalanan yang tak jelas juntrungannya. Justru pengunjung yang datang ke tempat ini banyak berasal dari kelompok mahasiswa. Bahkan, tak jarang kalangan eksekutif juga senang nongkrong di tempat ini.
Dhara mengaku, usahanya ini memang tidak membidik satu segmen tertentu saja. Dengan nama Kopi Jalanan, ia ingin yang datang ke tempatnya adalah semua kalangan. Nama Kopi Jalanan sendiri sengaja diangkat agar orang-orang tidak sungkan mampir ke tempatnya.
“Kalau kita menggunakan nama aneh-aneh, justru orang akan sungkan datang. Kalau sudah begitu, suasana ngopi dan nongkrong pun tidak akan tercipta di tempat ini. Padahal yang namanya tempat ngopi dan nongkrong suasananya harus asyik,” ungkap Ibu satu anak ini.
Karena ingin menyasar seluruh kalangan, Kopi Jalanan pun mematok harga menu dengan harga yang sangat bersahabat. Ngopi dan Nongkrong di tempat ini tidak akan membuat kantong pecinta kuliner jadi bolong!

Jajaghu (Jago) Temple

Jajaghu or Jago temple was constructed in 1275 - 1300 AD. It believed as the burial place of King Wisnuwardhana ashes, the fourth king of Singosari kingdom. It is extremely interesting that the temple has ornament similarities to those of Penataran temple in Blitar Regency. It lies at Jago village, Tumpang District, the eastern part of Malang (about 22 km).
